Individual Research into Genre

Drama:

The 'drama' genre is usually accosiated with serious subjects and storylines. Drama is appealing to a wide range of people because of its realism and relatabilty. Arguably, all films involving fictional stories fall into the genre of 'drama' in one way or another, but often also fall into other genres or sub-genres. Our film could be placed in the sub-genre of war-drama due to the flashbacks the main character experiences.

Some examples of dramas are:
-Me Before You (2016) Trailer
-The Sound of Music (1965) Trailer
-Titanic (1997) Trailer

War:

War films usually contain combat scenes and are set in either WW1, WW2, or ongoing wars in places such as Afganistan, Iraq and Syria. Other settings may be the American Civil War, or the Korean or Vietnam war. Themes such as combat, survival, escape, sacrifice and moral attitudes are often explored in War films, and it is usually the British or Americans that are presented in the most favourable light. Many non-fiction war films were made in the '40s as a means of propaganda, however war films made more recently usually have the purpose of entertaining.

Some examples of war films are:
-Saving Private Ryan (1998) Trailer
-Apocalypse Now (1979) Trailer
 -The Pianist (2002) Trailer

Mental Illness:

Although mental illness isn't a genre, it is a very important theme in our film. Georgie's PTSD is a plot driver as it causes the hallucinations of her girlfriend. See 'Research into PTSD' post for more details.

Mental Illness in film:

-Black Swan (2010) Trailer
-Psycho (1960) Trailer
